a moment of music… to honor silence…

September 23, 2007 ·

What can I write to honor the sound of silence..

Marcel Marceau, whose lithe gestures and pliant facial expressions revived the art of mime and brought poetry to silence, died. He was 84 in years 24 in spirit…It was in Barnes and Nobel at Lincoln Center that I first met Marcel, he remembered a performance I gave in what then seemed like a lifetime ago…he was kind and gracious and once we clicked, he made up for his silence on stage … he could out talk me!His heart as big as France, his soul as big as the world and the love he gave filled a universe Marcel Marceau proved silence is golden …and my treasure will be the time we spent and the soothing sound of his voice a treasure that blessed my life …. I will miss you…

How dose one say goodbye to their inspiration!Norman Mailer, gruff and pugnacious yet at the same time warm and fuzzy with a heart of gold; cold and astute, kind and naive… a multi facetted diamond…a friend…you often won’t like what he said on first listen but after explanation it was obvious that he would change your life for the best… a literary giant whose contribution to the words of mankind’s history can not be under estimated …a man whose friendship can not be replaced…now he’ll document life in the heavens …a best seller…Gods in for a great read….

some people just make you smile!

Martha Kostyra

September 16th, 1914 – November 16th, 2007

My deepest sympathy to The Kostyra Family on the loss of a loved mother and Grandmother. Mrs. Kostyra was only briefly in my life but was one of those people who give you strength and confidence, she Introduced us to a little café in Norwalk that has become a family stop when we travel through Connecticut I have a wonderful memories of a lunch and dessert there a year ago this week thanksgiving with my Mother… I often smile at the memories that a chance meeting can create and the discovery that there are only six degrees of separation between us all… I will never forget Mrs. Kostyra and always thought I should just pick up the phone when we were traveling through and say lets meet for dessert so I can say thanks…

Now I won’t have that chance…if there’s someone in your life that ever so briefly made you smile, don’t wait let them know, they are thought of with a smile and go on your way…funny, how some memories stay with you…

Evel Knievel American Hero….

November 30, 2007 ·

Robbie, Kelly, Tracey and Alicia. To you I sent my deepest sympathy your father Evel Knievel Was a man among men. In may youth escaping straight jackets and handcuffs catching bullets or escaping from life threatening challenges I was always compared to Evel and I was always honored. He thought a generation myself included that life was to be lived and challenges and obstacles overcome. He gave a world hope that against insurmountable odds anything was possible for 69 years the world was a little bit better because of Evel Knievel. May he bless the heavens with the courage he gave the earth.

Once in a Lifetime…

July 24th, 2007

Washing machines and odd jobs… a chance meeting at a piano bar …a cup of coffee… trusts and a dream came true…Motown’s founder Barry Gordie had a chance encounter with Ron Miller a cup of coffee an idea and blind faith brought together these 2 and changed all of us forever… Touch Me in the Morning” “For Once in My Life,” “Heaven Help” “ Daddy Goodness” “Cheery,” “Bus Stop.” “I’ve Never Been A Woman Before,” “The Way We Were” among my favorites and thousands of other songs from the heart whose beat would rock the world…Ron Miller When I was first performing Ron, Fats Domino and Chubby Checker thought me so very much they were nice old men …looking back they weren’t very old but they were very nice…their knowledge and guidance helped make me who I am…today I was finding it difficult to write…my music was silent and my heart empty … then the news Ron Miller had died at 74…suddenly this morning he touched me…after all these years he is alive and will live as long as his love and pain his words and songs will keep him alive forever….He told me when it happens, when love walks into your life … you can never be the same…so enjoy the highs and the lows live every second …if it lasts a minute or a lifetime, you’ll never forget it and nothing will ever be the same….Ron the minutes of our friendship have given me a lifetimeThe music in heaven has never been sweeter than tonight…To quote your song “heaven help us”J.B.

Today I’ll Plant wildflowers….

lady-birdproject-277x384.jpg

To spend a moment alone with Ladybird Johnson was something treasured a lifetime… her southern charm and grace, softened a brilliant mind. She was the complexity of the wild flowers she promoted. Many believed her contribution was the beautification of America. How simple a view of such a complex woman…Ladybird was the original environmentalist in a day when preservation and conservation were concepts either laughed at or unheard of. This pioneering first lady saw a need and with her iron willed determination found away to make America listen 30 years before we understood her message… she was the force behind the President and nation at a time when her style of subtitle change was critical to the nations future. She helped a nation heal, a civil rights movement evolve, and planted the seeds of an environmental movement that may be the planets last hope. For 94 years this wife, mother and grandmother from Karnack, Texas. Changed the country she so loved and made sure she would leave it to the next generation better than she found it…In the end in southern style she did her part… and can take a well deserved rest….I will always treasure moments alone with this wonderful woman who taught me to look at weeds as flowers and life as sacred where ever it grew she found hope in a blade of grass and beauty in anything that grew from the earth. One evening at Mount Vernon she change our life and we didn’t even understand how until it was to late to say “Thank You” I hope God is prepared, I sure you’ll be statring a movment to make even heaven better than it thought it could be…God knows you made us better…Our prayers are with you…and your friendship all to brief, will fill our days…Joseph Landry & Brian Gazeley
