The holidays are nearly over and we are home in Halifax for Old Christmas today… this weekend the whole family will be together…

Christmas and New Years took us in new directions this year and although a break from our annual routine I rather enjoyed it…

It was the first Christmas with out our son and I can’t begin to tell you how much I missed him…my heart goes out to the families of the men and women of the armed services, I at least had the comfort of knowing my son was safe … you are all in my prayers…

The robbins

A short visit in Maine with the Robbins world class ad man Steve and a brilliant young author Zackary entertained us while Marta kept us fed and sane …she packed a goodie bag of her famous cinnamon bread that we enjoyed on Christmas Eve…she was with us for breakfast at least in spirit… we had stops in Portland, Me; Kennibuckport, Me.; Portsmouth, NH; Providence RI. we spent the evening of the 23rd as a private Christmas in Connecticut…all snuggled up with visions of New York dancing in our heads…

no one can understand the magic of Christmas until you enjoy the spirit of New York City at the Holidays… our day started when we met Razza the manager of our local Starbucks! His battery needed a boost and we needed a parking spot…providence brought us together, Razza got his car going and we got a prime parking spot!

A morning coffee and Marta’s bread followed by shopping on 5th avenue, our faces made up for a photo shoot and evening show in the village we made it to Macy’s 34th street…

We made new friends all day long and even as we were packing to leave for Washington after midnight we met Mary and David on the street … small world but our paths crossed in 2 counties as we chatted and discovered our six degrees…

Christmas morning we arrived at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. it was so great to see Bishop John Chane he is truly family to us and Katherine & Russell Klingenmeier are always there with a smile on Christmas morning… We presented the miniature Resurrected Christ made from the reconstituted remains of Ground Zero to Bishop Chane and the National Cathedral of Peter and Paul normally the highlight of a lifetime but this Christmas Day was only beginning…

We arrived to a homecoming at Mount Vernon George Washington’s home and in a way ours… John Marshal and the staff had a Christmas feast for these three wary travelers as they made sure we knew we were home for the holidays…

Otis and I preparing for the moment of a life time at Washingtons home Mount Vernon..

we enjoyed the company of friends and early in the afternoon Otis and I took to the stage in the theater at Mount Vernon to perform a sneak peak of The Washington Symphony this moment was the end of a ten year journey in my life… I could scarcely believe we were here at Washington’s home bringing the commission of a life time to reality…A once in a life time moment I’ll never forget as Otis sang and Brian took pictures I felt as though George and Martha were watching over us… a Christmas to remember…we have always been treated as royalty at Mount Vernon but today I felt like a Tsar inside… the evening was spent at the National Christmas Tree and the White House hard to believe but anti-climactic after our whorl wind day…

Boxing Day was spent enjoying the company of friends at Mount Vernon, Sue Keeler, as always inspired us and I gave the Snowflake story I wrote here to the Mount Vernon Ladies Association and the White House story to the White House Historical Society what an honor to have my children’s books become part of the living history of places so dear to my heart… that evening we toured the monuments and had a photo shoot for our publicity stills…

A magic Night of Parties on Broadway

The 28th was back to New York City, time with friends old and new was spaced between shooting schedules for the documentary about the three of us…I’ll try to make the video available here after it’s primer later this spring… the evenings held fun at celebrity studded events and parties with our friends…all in preparation for New Years Eve, it began with the most special gift a wonderful woman we met days earlier had lost her restraint and career and was down on her luck; rebuilding her life at 86 years of age vibrant and alive I look forward to meeting her each morning for coffee, but this new years eve she gave us such a wonderful gift ..She has made ends met by knitting hats and she made three of the most wonderful hats just for us to mach our wardrobe…

Us with Marina and our New Hats

of all the gifts this one made my heart the warmest for she made them to keep us warm at the ball drop knitted with love she gave us all she had…a special gift of love I will cherish forever, may God bless you Marina as you have blessed us…it’s people like Marina that made my dreams seven years ago come true, when I began “ New York Live” in 2000 I decided I would only write it on New Years Eve… this was the 100th time the ball would drop and on the centennial I finished the play…the first song I wrote for the play 7 years ago was about dream coming true called look up listen son it’s the story of a legend I made up that when you wish on a piece of confetti and it falls into the square on New Years Eve if some one catches it your wish becomes real and comes true… this year the Time Square Bid Association let millions dream by writing their wishes on confetti that was dropped into the square at midnight…

You can never imagine what that moment felt like…miracles real do happen if you let them…

new-years-eve.jpg.

we met 17 new friends and each is a story of how people can change each others lives forever if you just believe in love… over the last 7 years every story I dreamt up came true with a happy ending “New York Live” is truly a miracle to me…

finished as it began in the square with millions of dreams making it a reality. How can it not be my best work… it’s magic my masterpiece….

a meet and greet a video shoot at Lexington Green and our holiday schedule would soon come to a close…we came home looking forward to seeing family and our son bill, cant wait to see Ian’s smile and talk to Marcel when we got to Maine SNOW!!  It just kept getting colder and deeper … remind me why we travel north in the winter…we dreaded having to shovel when we get to Nova Scotia… our last Christmas wish came true… Brian at Blue Barn Farms in Hammond’s Plains had us all plowed out… at 4 am it was one beautiful Christmas gift…

Happy Holidays everyone
